Tarli Inca Norrith zone Amethyst/Karasar

Tarli

This is the only story I have ever actually finished, so far.  It's a short story, about 53 pages A4, font size 10.  Started 1995.  More for young adults.  Based on two dreams I had.

Story of a white lioness.  Too cheesy and gory to be published by anyone.  Tarli is the main character. She makes friends with another lioness, a lion and a hyaena.  There's also a bunch of other animals.  Centres on the relationship between her and the pride male of a more important pride.  Ends with them having three cubs.  There are some facts included but most of it is absolute rot.

Inca

Remains unfinished.  Started in December 1997.  Don't know how long it is.

Similar concept to the story above, but instead of being about a lion it is about a black jaguar.  The relationship is with an interloper into another male's territory.  Makes friends with a collared peccary and a harpy eagle.  The problems include Inca's father, the male who replaces him.  The harpy is also searching for a mate, the peccary already has two.  It ends happily, they all get their respective mates and offspring.

The Norrith Zone

My first attempt at science fiction.  Unfortunately I know nothing about space so I stopped writing this a long time ago.  Started in 1996.  Longer than Inca.  First story with a proper title.

There were seven main characters.  Two were human, One a human-alien hybrid, one an alien of the same species as the hybrid, two further different aliens, and an animal that developed a human form (known as missum) after the holocaust on Earth.  They stuck a ridiculously small number of people to investigate an uncharted area of space.

The story centres on the relationships between these members (Something I seem obsessed with), especially the 17 year old alien with the ability to create ice out of thin air and freeze people.  There's a scene on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes, who do not speak (as such) but the two groups are forced to communicate.  There's also a part where the alien girl (from the Norrith zone) goes home to her planet which is under the occupation of a violent species.  She and a human crash on it, the planet is too cold on the outside for human survival, the crust is thin so they have to go into the cave structures, which is where the aliens are.  And a further one where the other Norrith zone alien encounters an old flame who is now the ruler of a part of space which does not conform to the rules of the universe, and she doesn't like his companions.

It works out, they complete their mission.  All come back to Earth, they pair off, the missum is reunited with the lover she left behind.

Amethyst/Karasar

Started 1994, I think, both were short.  They were meant to be, but were never finished anyway.  Karasar is based on a dream I had.

These are two stories, set in the same world which follow on from one another. The world is primitive, and ruled by a richer group, and by the mages.  The mages come from the richer part of the population.  They learn their magic.  However there are those who are born with magic, these are the witches, and occur more frequently in the slums.  Slum people cannot afford doctors.  Witches heal by using magic to draw away the illness, the physical aspect of these diseases then show on them so that a 20 year old can look over 100.  Hence doctors and mages do not like witches, and hence they are illegal.  Slums protect their witches.  All those born with magic in the slums are expected to become witches.  Amethyst refused, and joined the mages.

There was much resistance but she becomes an important member.  The mages meet up with a rich person born with magic, who is used to getting what he wants, this doesn't work with Amethyst.  Then an evil mage tries to kill them all, and becomes obsessed with Amethyst.  He also tries to exterminate witches.  Amethyst finds a cure for them, helping to keep them safe.  She and the rich guy end up married.

Karasar is their daughter, she was kidnapped when she was 6.  She is rescued from the fair where she is put to work.  Her rescuer turns out to be the much younger brother of the evil mage.  He then helps her escape him.  Her job is to save the world and kill the evil mage once and for all.  This involves communicating with a tree.  In the end she and the brother end up together and she is reunited with her parents.  She has so much magical power that her hair is blue.

Present

Transgenic The leopards of Irrendiszhl

Transgenic

My second attempt at science fiction, at least it is in part, much of it is not.  Started August 1999.  So far 245 pages A4 in rough.  Based on three dreams I've had, or maybe four.

The main character is Patric Lowry, she is a human-tiger transgenic F1 generation hybrid.  She was created by 2 scientists.  She was 'liberated' when she was 4.  This caused one scientist, J. Ira Ford to go a little mad and kill everyone at the institute.  In the following years she is adopted by a family who unfortunately die (technically she kills them, although 'mom' is actually a clone not the real person).  She develops this thing where because creating unnatural hybrids is wrong, she kills everyone who makes them, and the hybrids.  She can communicate with cat species, and falls in love with Vili, the veterinary graduate, who also kills these scientists.  When she's 16 Ford finds her.  She undergoes a hormonal imbalance, he rapes her.  Vili kills a couple of kids, which causes him and Patric to get into a cycle of trying to kill eat other at time, and being nice at others.

The government then implant all transgenic humans with a device which can sedate or kill them with a 6 digit code.  So Patric ends up working as an assassin for them.  She then meets her dead natural mother's cousin, Zoe.  Three years later Zoe dies of cancer leaving her 6 year old daughter in Patric's care.  Patric in the end gets free, after finding out the device in her wrist doesn't work.  In the end she and Vili end up happy, with their own veterinary surgery.  Haven't decided what happens to Ford yet.  Most of the characters you meet in this story die.

The leopards of Irrendiszhl

Started May 2001.  Based on a dream, though the same character appeared in two very different dreams.

Not really certain what I'm doing in this one yet.  There are two main characters, Uncia, A cat lycanthrope, and Pardus Ochre.  Set in a different world, Irrendiszhl.  The world is primitive, settlements occurring around castles, and many hermits.  Magic exists.  Most magicians work for the castle lords.  Pardus Ochre is both the most powerful magician and the lord of the world's capital city.  The cat lycanthrope are the world's second species, and no one knew about them.  Pardus found out and had them all killed.  All but Uncia who he stuck in the oubliette.  Four 3 years, 8 months he used magic to watch her every day.  When he got her out it was to keep her captive in his private rooms.  She remained in cat form refusing to turn human.  She finally escapes, and finds 2 other surviving cat lycanthrope.  After that it goes a bit foggy.  There are no leopards in it.  Panthera uncia is the snow leopard, and Panthera pardus is the leopard.

Future

Family The Muhaits Machairodus

The family

This one was inspired by a dream.  In it there is a family, of course, THE FAMILY.  They're sort of mafia-like, except without most of the violence.  They do 'favours' for the rich, famous and anyone who canm afford to contact them  In return at certain times these people then have to do favours, pay up or have a nasty thing happen to them.

The family is not immune to other gangs though.  It focuses around three members known as the promised, whoi are the only living descendants of the chosen a member who had magical power.  It is believed these3 will have a good deal of that magic, since all them have some ability any way, but these have more.  They're all named after the latin species names of organisms, and only one person, Vison, calls them by the meaning instead of the latin.  She is one of the promised.  She was an orphan, and raised by other members of the family.

However, Vison is not what she appears, she is actually a very long lived relative of the progenitor of the chosen.  No one knows this, except her but even she's a little foggy on the details since she forgot her past a bit.  Another member of the family is jealous of her, and tries to kill her.  Instead Vison shoves a bow through her neck.  She tries to escape from the rest of the family who don't blame her at all for the death, and another of the promised goes with her, while she tries to remember what is going on.  It turns out that the chosen is long lived too, and evil, and it's up to her to end it all when he goes against the family.

The Muhaits Trilogy

This started as a story by itself, but then I came up with a couple of alternatives to the theme and ended up with a trilogy so:

1.   The muhaits are a bunch of people who train to be sort of warrior type people.  Main character is a girl who appears out of nowhere to join them.  She doesn't remember who she was before that.  Walks whichever direction she points in.  She and the master muhait end up liking each other.  The evil heir to the throne is refused membership.  The girl gets thrown out before training is complete.  The king dies, the new king in revenge disbands the muhaits.  All are then killed except the master who escapes, finds the girl and completes her training.  She then helps a bunch of people who fell out of favour with the new king, is raped by him, and leaves the baby to die.  The little of her memory left leads them to a forgotten mountain pass, the people are left there with instructions to continue on.  The girl and master muhait marry.

2.   The couple have two kids.  Master muhait develops a chest infection and ends up dying.  Girl is 24 by now.  Lives in a slum-ish area, very successful.  Ends up with a 16 year old boy baby sitter.  Boy is running from a bunch of assassins.  When they attack her house, and kidnap her daughter because they can't get the guy, she kills one.  They figure out the damage could only be done by a muhait, and seek the king's help.  He knows it's her.  He keeps the dead baby preserved in a jar.  The girl and babysitter team up to destroy the assassins and free the daughter.  They disappear together.

3.   Babysitter and girl are married, with another kid.  Live in the real slums now, evading notice.  They're house is nicer on the inside than anyone else in the road.  Keep to themselves.  Makes friends with a young girl, being abused by her father, the kid kills him and is under threat of being hanged.  Muhait goes to king for help, since he decides who hands.  Engineers a pardon for the girl and her entire family, and passage to another country safely.  Her husband is granted safe return to go with them.  In return she stays with the king and sends her kids with her husband.  They're kids don't have safe return so husband has to stay with them while a person from story 1 meats the others to take them beyond the mountain pass.  Muhait escapes and joins them.  They get to the forgotten land where she discovers she really is the last of the muhaits, since they were actually a race of people, and the institutions methods were based on that of a few who actually went to that land.  And every one ends up safe.

Machairodus

I had several dreams with this extinct species of big cat in.  Well not the real thing, they were named after it but were more a hybrid of lion/leopard/tiger, and were lycanthrope - shape-shifters.  I'm not entirely certain which I'll use in a story but I quite like the one with repeating reincarnations where a girl just happens to come back as one of them instead of human.  She only remembers her past lives after that since the machairodus creatures had a greater brain capacity than the humans did.  Basically there are 2 people, who fancy each other, but she disapproves of killing the machairodus which is the town's initiation ceremony for becoming a man.  She never talks to the guy again, dies and returns as a machairodus, which at this point, a few centuries later, only live on the grass, and kill any human that steps onto it.  She has cubs, a hunter kills one and later her.  This is the guy, obviously.  Things keep going wrong until by freakish accident her becomes a machirodus, and still he kills her for some reason.  The life after both are human and everything works out.

In another story there's a girl who was a machairodus in a previous life, and they remember her as such and treat her as one of them, instead of a human, which they kill if they step on the grass.

And in another they remain shape-shifters, and an unlucky survivor from an outdoor fitness centre, finds out she remained because she's descended from one of them.  The hunter sent to kill them then finds out this girl is his granddaughter.  In this one there are also venomous moggies.
